(WWJ) Detectives with Oakland County Sheriff’s Office are searching for an armed suspect who robbed a sandwich shop late Tuesday night.

Deputies responded to a report of an armed robbery at Jimmy John’s, located at 5601 Sashabaw Rd. in Independence Township, at around 10:45 p.m.

According to investigators, an unknown male suspect shattered the glass of the back door to enter the building.

Once inside, he pulled out a handgun and confronted two employees — a 21-year-old Grand Blanc Township woman and a 19-year-old Clarkston woman — demanding access to the store's safe.

When the employees said they couldn't access the safe, the suspect ordered them to place their purses on the counter. The suspect then climbed onto the counter, grabbed the purses, and fled on foot through the rear door, according to the sheriff's office.

“We really could use the public’s help on this case. If you were in the area around the time of the incident, or you have a business or a home that has a camera that may have caught the person on foot, or a car fleeing the area, we would greatly appreciate that information being shared with us,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

“It goes without saying that it is important to take this violent offender off the street. Information that leads us in a direction that allows us to arrest and convict an individual could be eligible for a Crime Stoppers award.”

Responding deputies established a perimeter and used K9s and a drone unit to search the area, without success.

The suspect. seen in a security camera image released on Wednesday, is described only as a male wearing a mask, a black hooded sweatshirt, and black shoes.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information, surveillance footage, or dashcam video is asked to call the OCSO Independence Township Substation at 248-620-4968.
