OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) -- After 137-years of training Polish priests, an Oakland County seminary is closing its doors.
The SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake announced on Thursday that the school will cease operations at the end of the current academic year.
In a statement on their website, officials cited several reasons for the decision, including declining enrollment caused by changing demographics.
The seminary will work to help the 11 currently enrolled students finish their studies.
Initially founded in 1885 on Detroit's east side by the Rev. Joseph Dabrowski, a Polish immigrant priest, the school was eventually relocated to Orchard Lake in 1909.
The closure comes months after a federal lawsuit accused the Rev. Miroslaw Krol, the chancellor of Orchard Lake Schools, which shares a campus with the seminary, of sexual misconduct involving subordinates.
Krol has denied the accusations.
