PONTIAC (WWJ) -- In a story one could call utterly ridiculous, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office says a company's claim that a valuable cover for its mechanical bull was stolen was bogus.
According to the OCSO, the company claimed that a $34,000 custom covering for its one-of-a-kind mechanical bull thrill ride was stolen after last Saturday’s Roadkilll Nights in downtown Pontiac.
Ram brand even issued a news release that said the custom-made metal cover for its “Bucking HEMI” was stolen while it was being disassembled after a company-sponsored event.
“This is bull----,” the Ram CEO was quoted in the news release as saying.
"Well, it may indeed have been BS," the OCSO said in an update, Wednesday night.
After a theft report was field, Sheriff Mike Bouchard said detectives have determined the theft never occurred and the item actually was in the possession of people at the company.
“The company never actually lost the bull,” Bouchard said. “I find this to be very frustrating and a tremendous waste of valuable investigative time. Now, we’re pivoting to see if a crime was committed by the filing of a false police report.”
It's unclear why the theft was reported, or what those who reported it may have sought to gain. Bouchard said the case remains under investigation.
