(WWJ) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is celebrating the holiday spirit at two state parks this month with "Enchanted Borealis” trails, featuring holiday lights. lantern-lit hikes and comfy campfires.
The two special nighttime hikes will take place at Seven Lakes State Park in Holly from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, Saturday, Dec. 9, Friday, Dec. 15 and Saturday, Dec. 16 and the Ionia State Recreation Area in Ionia from 5pm to 8pm on December 8th - 9th.
Both are free to the public. Officials said reservations are encouraged due to parking availability. Groups who wish to have a private campfire experience can reserve one for a fee.
"Join us for a unique night hike with a fun holiday feel," DNR officials said of the special hikes on their website. "Meander through the forest by following a one-mile lantern-lit path and enjoy some colorful holiday lights along the way."

Ionia State Recreation Area
• Visitors can walk the trail, illuminated by lanterns and colorful holiday lights
• Friends and family can enjoy one of ten campfires by the lake for S'mores or roasting marshmallows -- please remember you must provide your own items and each firepit is available for a fee.
• Money raised will fund future improvement projects within the park
• Registration is recommended for all, but required for private fires.
• The point area is open to everyone, the campground area is reservation only
• Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and for the hike
• Be aware that the trails traverse low and uneven terrain with some areas prone to possible puddling water
• Please note that all campfires will be extinguished once the event ends at 8 p.m.

Seven Lakes State Park
• Hikers will start at the Dickinson Picnic Shelter -- be aware that the trails traverse hilly and uneven terrain
• Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather
• You can rent your own campfire spot for $20 (wood and fire starting included).
• Campfire spots are limited and must be reserved ahead of time.
• The event is a fundraiser for the park
• Please note that campfires will be extinguished once the event ends at 8 p.m.
• A Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into the park.
