Off-duty Livonia police officer critically injured following collision with truck

An off-duty Livonia cop is hospitalized with critical injuries after the motorcycle he was driving crashed with a truck on Thursday, authorities announced.

LIVONIA (WWJ) - An off-duty Livonia cop is hospitalized with critical injuries after the motorcycle he was driving crashed with a truck on Thursday, authorities announced.

The Livonia Police Department said the collision occurred just after 10 a.m. on Middlebelt south of Six Mile within the City of Livonia. Officers along with first responders from the Livonia Fire Department were dispatched to the scene when they discovered their colleague was involved.

The injured officer was rushed to a local hospital where he is said to be in critical condition. On Friday, the department added that the victim underwent surgery.

According to the department, the officer was not working at the time of the crash and is a ten-year veteran of the force -- his name has not been by police.

"Our department appreciates the kind thoughts and prayers of the
community at this difficult time," authorities said.

An investigation by the Livonia Police Department Traffic Safety Bureau is ongoing. The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unknown at this time.
