Ohio man killed in Tesla crash on I-75 in Monroe County

SOUTH ROCKWOOD, MICH (WWJ) -- A crash involving a Tesla on I-75 in Monroe County killed an Ohio man, according to police.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said, around 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 15-- troopers from the Monroe Post were dispatched to the area of northbound I-75 near Sylvania Drive in South Rockwood for a one-car crash.

Several drivers called 911 to report seeing headlights of a vehicle in the grass off the roadway, MSP said.

Troopers arrived to find a 2018 Tesla Model 3 with one person inside, a 47-year-old Toledo man. The vehicle was heavily damaged.

The driver was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not released.

According to  MSP, the vehicle left the road and struck a tree. It's unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
