DETROIT (WWJ) A home explosion on Detroit’s east side left one person dead and another injured.
Detroit Police said the Fire Department received a call about a home explosion on McCormick at Beaconsfield, near Moross and I-94, on Saturday, July 5 at approximately 4 p.m.
According to police, first responders arrived at the scene in “just under six minutes” and removed a 46-year-old man with burns from the house.
He was rushed to Detroit Receiving Hospital where he’s listed in critical, but stable condition. Authorities described his injuries as “serious but non-life-threatening."
First responders also recovered "a female victim" who died in the explosion. Police said they will not share her age or other identifying details at this time “out of respect for her family.”
The explosion caused “significant damage” to two neighboring homes and a garage, according to police.
Fire investigators, DTE and other utility companies are on scene to determine the cause of the explosion.
