One injured in fire at vacant church on Detroit's west side

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Authorities are investigating the cause of a fire early Monday at an old, vacant church on Detroit's west side.

Firefighters responded just before 5 a.m. to the Body of Christ Christian Center, at Ohio St. and Grand River Ave.

Reporting from the scene, WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton said the church was fully engulfed in flames when Detroit Fire crews arrived.

According to fire officials, a homeless man was found inside an adjacent building. He was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation, as well as some burns.

No other injuries were reported.

At this time, it's unclear if this could be an arson case, or what may have sparked the fire.

No other details were released.
