One killed, three injured in shooting at Royal Oak Township park: police

ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP (WWJ) One was person was killed and three were injured in a quadruple shooting in a Royal Oak Township park.

Michigan State Police (MSP) said the Detroit Regional Communication Center received an open 911 call, and the dispatcher could hear banging and screaming in the background. The call came in around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, June 22, from Royal Oak Township Park.

Officers arrived on scene and found a man with a gunshot wound to the head.

According to MSP, troopers administered first aid, CPR and dressed his wound. Both state troopers and Oak Park Police officers arrived to assist with securing the scene.

“There was a large crowd in the park from a party,” MSP said. “Initially, they were not cooperative in leaving the scene.”

The victim—identified as a 44-year-old from Detroit— was rushed to the hospital via ambulance. He was pronounced dead when he arrived.

His name was not released.

While investigating; detectives learned of three more victims with nonfatal gunshot wounds. All were treated at different hospitals, MSP said.

They were identified as a 33-year-old Detroit man, a 15-year-old from Macomb and a 19-year-old from Detroit.

MSP have not released any information on the circumstances leading up to the shooting or a motive. No suspect information has been released.
