(WWJ) - The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash involving a single car.
First responders were called to the area of Bordman and Wales Ridge Roads in Riley Township, which is northeast of Armada, following reports of a crash on Jan. 21, according to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Facebook. The crash took place at approximately 6 p.m.
The initial investigation found that a 2003 Ford F-250 was traveling west on Bordman Road when “it lost control and proceeded off the north side of the roadway,” according to the Facebook post. “The truck continued where it is believed that it overturned before coming to rest in a pond after breaking through the ice.”
There were three people in the vehicle.
Authorities said one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle before it entered the water, while a second passenger was able to get out of the truck while it was in the water and swam to shore.
Both passengers were taken to McLaren Port Huron where they were treated for “relatively minor injuries.”
The driver was found “submerged in the water” by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s dive team.
The driver died at McLaren Macomb hospital despite lifesaving measures being administered by first responders who were on the scene, authorities said.
The St. Clair County Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
