One person is in custody after allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle from a Monroe County dealership

MONROE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A man is in custody after police say he attempted to steal a vehicle from a local dealership.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies and Michigan State Police troopers investigated a call received at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 from an alarm company for a local car dealership, according to a press release by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities found a man inside one of the vehicles. He was allegedly attempting to “drill out the ignition.” The suspect was arrested without incident.

The 20-year-old suspect, a resident of Romulus, was taken to the Monroe County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Department said the suspect’s name is being withheld until his formal arraignment in court.

The case is under investigation.
