Howell man dead, Farmington Hills man in custody after shooting at Commerce Township bar and restaurant

COMMERCE TWP. (WWJ) -- A Howell man is dead after a shooting at a bar and restaurant in Commerce Township Sunday night.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident just after 9:30 p.m. at Prime 7, located along Cooley Lake Rd. near Immenesee Rd.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton said the shooting happened as people were gathered for a Detroit Lions game watch party at the bar.

The victim has since been identified as 44-year-old Francesk Shkambi, Prime 7's general manager.

According to the sheriff's office, witnesses called 911 and deputies responded to the scene to find Shkambi lying on a patio outside the restaurant. They immediately began life saving measures.

Shkambi was then taken by ambulance to a local hospital where he later died.

Finding that the shooter was no longer at the scene, the sheriff's office immediately activated its Special Investigation Unit and Fugitive Apprehension Team.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the suspect— a 65-year-old Farmington Hills man turned himself in about 20 minutes after the shooting, and confessed to the shooting.

Later Monday, he remained lodged in the Oakland County Jail, awaiting charges.

The OCSO said detectives are expected to turn the case over to prosecutors for review on Tuesday.

Detectives recovered the weapon believed used in the shooting, the sheriff said: a 9 mm handgun which had been reported stolen.

Todd Stoney, who books bands that play at the Prime 7 on Friday and Saturday nights, could hardly believe something like this happened there.

"Just a surprise, shock," he told Langton. "This is my neighborhood; this don't normally happen."

At this time, it's still unclear if the suspect and the victim knew each other, and what led to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.

Bouchard said an arraignment is expected to take place Tuesday.
