(WWJ) The latest gun violence in the city of Detroit takes the life of a teenager who, along with another teen, was shot on the east side Friday night.
One teen, 13, died at the scene at Lantz and Anglin streets. The second teen, 13, was shot in the arm and taken to the hospital. They were step brothers.
Assistant Chief Franklin Hayes says three teens were walking on the street just after 9 p.m. when the gunfire started.
"A dark colored vehicle pulled up on them, rolled the window down, words were exchanged and then shots rang out from that vehicle," Hayes told reporters. "This is not okay, this is not acceptable, we will not tolerate it."
Hayes says police were investigating to determine if the victims knew the suspects.
"Regardless if they knew them or not, gunfire to address any issue whether its a beef or.. it's not okay," Hayes said.
He pleaded with the community to provide information on the suspects.
"Please call Crimestoppers 1-800 SPEAK UP, we also have Rewards TV, Detroit Police Homicide 596-2260, you can call 911, you can walk into a precinct, please help us find the people responsible for hurting this baby, this family will never be the same," Hayes said.
The shooting happened just hours after a Power Hour of prayer and call to action took place in Spirit Plaza with community and church leaders calling for an end to violence.
