(WWJ) – More than 20,000 Metro Detroiters woke up with no power Sunday morning after strong winds swept across Michigan on Saturday.
DTE Energy says just under 23,000 homes and businesses are without power in Southeast Michigan, as of noon.
The largest outages are centered in the Howell, Brighton, and South Lyon areas, according to the DTE Outage Map. The energy company is reporting 1,300 work crews are working to restore power, which is expected to be back on sometime today.
Outside of the DTE service area, nearly 100,000 Consumers Energy customers were still offline late Sunday morning. Consumers estimates power will be restored by Tuesday night.
While there wasn’t much, if any, rain in Metro Detroit on Saturday, wind gusts topped 65 mph in some spots, as a Wind Advisory was in effect for most of the area.
