DETROIT (WWJ) -- To say it was a busy day on Belle Isle would be an understatement.
The Detroit island park was closed by Michigan State Police on Memorial Day due to overcrowding.
The announcement was made via Twitter from MSP around 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
As of 5:00 a.m Tuesday, the park was reopened for entry.
Belle Isle, which spans 987-acres, has been a popular Detroit destination for decades. The island became Michigan's 102nd State Park in 2014, and features the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, the Belle Isle Aquarium, Dossin Great Lakes Museum, Belle Isle Nature Zoo, the James Scott Memorial Fountain and many more attractions and activities.
Located on the Detroit River, the park also has three lakes, 150 acres of wooded area and gorgeous views of the Detroit and Windsor skylines.
