DETROIT (WWJ) - Despite a fast response from authorities, a fire of unknown cause made quick work of a Detroit home on Friday night, leading to the death of one woman and sending two other victims to the hospital.
Detroit Fire Chief James Harris told WWJ that the flames broke out at a home in the 900 block of King Street near Cameron in Detroit sometime before 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
While crews were quick to the scene and immediately began efforts to knock down the blaze, Harris said the fire was faster.
"We made a fast attack, the response was quick," Harris said. "Unfortunately the home was fully engulfed upon arrival."
Harris confirmed a female victim died in the fire and two others were taken to the hospital with injures. The chief did not release any details about their condition.
Harris said investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
"Right now we're still in our preliminary stages of our investigation," Harris added. "We can't confirm how it started at this time."
