ROCHESTER HILLS (WWJ) A pedestrian crash left a 72-year-old Rochester Hills man in grave condition, the sheriff’s office said.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said a driver struck the man while he was walking across Rochester Road, on Sunday, November 3rd, around 6:45 a.m. The pedestrian had been walking westbound on Avon Road, and the driver was traveling northbound in a 2013 Ford Focus on Rochester Road when the crash occurred.
The driver is a 28-year-old citizen of Colombia, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators said the pedestrian wore a reflective vest, and they believe he was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. Rochester Hills Fire Department paramedics transported him to the hospital, where he’s listed in grave condition.
The U.S. Customs and Border Control determined the driver was in the U.S. illegally—and was released pending a future hearing in federal court, according to the sheriff's office.
The crash happened in a commercial area with a speed limit of 45 miles per hour.
Neither speed, alcohol, nor drugs are believed to play a role. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
