(WWJ) A pedestrian accident in a store parking lot claimed a person’s life in Farmington.
Police said the tragedy happened outside of CVS Pharmacy on Farmington Rd. at Grand River around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
A woman, 25, was backing out of her of her parking spot. She put her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake. It thrust the car into reverse and struck a pedestrian walking behind her car, according to police.
WDIV reports police believe the car went backward about about 20 feet before striking the victim who was walking into the store, "in a matter of seconds." The impact also left a hole in the front of the store.
The victim died at the scene. Their name is not being released at this time. He was a man in his forties, according to WDIV.
Police told WWJ the driver is cooperating with investigators. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor.
