This happened at around 9 a.m. Tuesday, along eastbound I-94 near 22 ½ Mile Road in Marengo Township, which is northwest Albion.
Michigan State Police said a preliminary investigation found that two people got out of their car on the shoulder of the freeway to check on a flat tire, when they were hit by the semi.
As a result of the crash,, eastbound I-94 was shut down at Exit 115, into the afternoon, with traffic being rerouted.
MSP said the freeway would remain closed while troopers were on the scene investigating the crash, with the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is assisting.
Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through this corridor, MSP said, follow posted detours and allow extra time for travel.
Police said this remains an active investigation, and that more details will be provided as they become available.
