(WWJ) Orion Township Fire officials are asking for help to find a CPR device and a bag used to care for children that have vanished from one of its ambulances.
In a Facebook post, the Fire Department announced one of its CPR devices (LUCAS device) and a red bag used in pediatric care were taken from an ambulance earlier in the week.
“This device does not have any use for someone outside of the department but is extremely important for the care of our patients,” the statement read.
Orion Township EMS Coordinator Kyle Cameron spoke live on WWJ about just how critical the LUCAS device is.
"The LUCAS device...is a mechanical CPR device for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It allows for continuous, uninterrupted quality CPR throughout the duration of a call of that nature," Cameron said.
It is paid for by grant money and hard to replace, according to Cameron.
Cameron said that they do not know on which call the device and red bag disappeared. EMS did not realize it was missing until later.
He called the disappearance "very distressing" and something you hopefully only encounter "once in a career," if at all.
At this point, he said they are simply "pleading" for the CPR device and red bag to be returned.
If you have any information regarding this, please contact the Orion Township Fire Department at (248) 391-0304 ext. 200 or the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at (248) 858-5000.
If you have the bag or the device, the Fire Department said you may return it to any of the four fire stations, “no questions asked.”
