MUNDY, Twp. (WWJ) -- Northbound U.S. 23 was shut down Wednesday afternoon after an oversized truck load hit the Hill Road bridge in Genesee County.
The Michigan Department of Transportation shared photos of the structural damage caused by what it called "a high-load hit" on the overpass at northbound US-23 in in Mundy Township, north of Fenton.
MDOT offered "kudos to the bridge repair crew" for getting the work done quickly last night and this morning so the freeway could reopen "especially before the holiday weekend!"
Officials aid one lane of eastbound Hill Road would remain closed until the crew can come back to perform additional repairs to the overpass.

MDOT said work dates for that portion of the repairs will be announced once the work is scheduled.
