Michigan State Police looking for driver of truck who hit, injured Saginaw-area firefighter early New Year's Day

(WWJ) – The search is on for the driver of a blue Chevy pickup truck who allegedly hit a Saginaw-area firefighter on the side of the road in the early morning hours of New Year's Day.

It happened just before 2 a.m. on Jan. 1 when a firefighter from Monitor Township — north of Saginaw and west of Bay City — was responding to a crash.

Michigan State Police officials say the firefighter, whose identity has not been released, was critically injured after being hit by a blue 2019 Chevrolet Colorado.

MSP officials on Wednesday shared a stock photo of the truck, asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or knows something about it to call the TriCity Post at 989-495-5555.

Authorities say the truck involved will likely have heavy front-end damage.

The firefighter was attending to a driver who went off the roadway along U.S. 10 near I-75 early Monday morning, according to a report from ABC 12.

With icy road conditions after midnight, the Monitor Twp. Fire Department had responded to at least two separate crashes in the area shortly before the firefighter was hit, according to the report.

The firefighter had gone to check on another car that went off the road when he was hit by the truck. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and was said to be in stable condition Monday, according to ABC 12.

Officials have not said whether alcohol is believed to be a factor in the hit-and-run.
