DETROIT (WWJ) - Residents in Detroit woke up to a rather peculiar sight wandering the streets on Tuesday morning, prompting police to use tools outside their standard issue to bring the suspect into custody.
Instead of handcuffs, police had to use a lasso and little bit of Wild Wild West law to capture a lost horse.
"It's great to be a DPD Officer," DPD's 2nd Precinct tweeted out about the incident. "Never know what the day will bring."
The department posted about the rescue just before 9 a.m. on April 11 after they said officers received a call about the escaped pony roaming the city's west side.
"Officers summoned their inner cowboy abilities," the department continued. "then quickly corralled and lassoed the horse!"
The flaxen chestnut-colored pony was moved to a safe location where it awaits to be reunited with its owners, police added.
Of course, police couldn't resist horsing around about the case and ended their update with joke.
"What do you call a horse that lives next door?" they asked.
"A neigh-bor!"
