FERNDALE (WWJ) A Warren man is recovering after an overnight shooting outside a Ferndale nightclub.
Ferndale Police said they were doing foot patrol around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 13, when they heard "multiple gunshots fired" in the Woodward Alley at 9 Mile and Woodward.
Officers found an injured man near the back door of the Orchid Theatre "within less than a minute" of hearing the gunshots. He was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the groin, police said.
Police rendered aid to him until EMS arrived. He was taken to a local hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
“Our officers responded within seconds of hearing gunfire and immediately rendered lifesaving aid to the victim,” Deputy Chief David Spellman said. “Their quick response stabilized the victim until Ferndale Fire arrived"
The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear. No arrests have been made. Investigators believe the "unknown suspect" fled the scene in an "unknown vehicle," according to police.
Michigan State Police, Hazel Park Police and Oak Park Police also assisted at the scene.
Ferndale Police are asking any witnesses to come forward. They're also seeking relevant video footage that may aid them in their investigation.
