Michigan State Police make a furry discovery while investigating a car parked along a Detroit freeway.

Troopers were patrolling on northbound I-75 near the Davison around 4 this morning ... when they noticed a car abandoned on the shoulder with its windows down. It was around 30 degrees at the time.

As they approached the car, they heard something moving around -- then a bark. Inside was a little puppy. Police say he was cold but otherwise alright. The pup, nicknamed "Davis," is now at Detroit Animal Care and Control.

"If there is one thing for sure about being a trooper, you are always unsure what the day or night will bring!" Michigan State Police said in a Tweet.
