Police investigating after fire erupts at West Bloomfield condominium

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a West Bloomfield condominium overnight.

It took first responders from all six West Bloomfield fire stations to tackle the blaze, which happened in the area of 14 Mile and Orchard Lake roads.

Firefighters acted quickly and were able to contain the flames. Everyone inside the condominium escaped safely, with no injuries reported.

At this point, authorities have not identified the cause of the fire.

However, officials say that this is the time of the summer season where people need to take extra precaution when handling fireworks and barbecue coals.

If left in a trash can or fire pit, the remnants can smolder and combust long after the party has ended.

When putting out a fire, experts at the Michigan DNR suggest dousing with water, stirring the ashes and then dousing with water again before going to bed or leaving the site.
