DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police are investigating after someone shot out multiple windows at the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center building early Friday morning.

It happened just before 5 a.m. Friday, July 18, according to DPD First Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald told reporters someone inside a gray sedan fired a pellet or BB gun from the car. Video surveillance shows the car circling the building multiple times while someone inside fired shots.

At least seven windows were damaged in the building, which serves as the headquarters of the Detroit City government, along with housing courtrooms and Wayne County government offices.

No one was inside the building at the time, no one called 911. and no injuries were reported.

"There were people sitting on the bench. They did not run, they didn't scatter," Fitzgerald said. "But we do know for a fact that there were six windows shot at on this side of the building, on the south side."

One more window was shot on the north side, he said.

The damage was discovered by cleaning staff who arrived at around 6 a.m.

There are no suspects at this time, but Fitzgerald said police are determined to discover who did this.

“What stands out is the stupidity of it," said Fitzgerald, at an afternoon press briefing. "They knew exactly where they were at. It’s not funny; it’s not a game to us. We’re going to find you and we’re going to hold you accountable.”

Police are asking anyone who knows something to call Detroit Police. The non-emergency number is 313-267-4600. Tipsters can also call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK UP.
