NOVI (WWJ) – The search is on for a puppy that was stolen from a pet store in Novi Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say a man stole a female Chihuahua puppy from Petland Novi at the Twelve Oaks Mall around 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Store officials are pleading for help finding the thief, having shared photos and video to Facebook showing the suspect standing in the socialization room with the dog before running out of the store.

The two-month-old puppy weighs only about 2 lbs. and “needs constant care and feeding,” according to the store.

The Petland general manager told WDIV the suspect was taking pictures and playing with the puppy – which isn’t unusual for customers in the store – but less than a minute later “he walked out of the room and just walked right out this door and then just picked up his speed and started running.”

The suspect, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, is described as about 6-feet-tall with his hair in locs, according to WDIV. Police say he left the fall in a blue or black Chrysler Pacifica with an Ohio license plate.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or knows something about the stolen puppy is asked to contact the Novi Police Department at 248-348-7100.
