DETROIT (WWJ) -- The names of photos of a suspect and his friend have been released after someone fired into a crowd in Downtown Detroit just before the start of the city's 67th annual fireworks show on Monday.

The Detroit Police Department said on Friday it is currently active in surrounding cities and counties searching for Alphonso Cooper Jr. and Markalowe Keith Steen Jr. in the shooting, which wounded two young people.

“I do not want them to have an enjoyable, stress-free weekend. I want them to know that we are out there,” said Chief Todd Bettison, at a press briefing.

"We have relationships across the state and are utilizing our partnerships statewide and technology in our apprehension efforts. It is only a matter of time that these individuals are in custody. Anyone that harbors these individuals will face consequences. Thank you to the community for all the tips that have been submitted."

Bettison said the double shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on June 23 in the area near Randolph and Larned streets. That's about a block away from the Spirit of Detroit Plaza and Hart Plaza, where people were gathered to watch the fireworks show.

Bettison said Cooper, a Romulus resident, got into argument with another young person over a $200 debt. It's alleged Cooper pulled out a gun and fired two shots.

Two people were struck by the gunfire: a 17-year-old boy from Romulus and a 22-year-old woman. Both suffered non life-threatening injuries, Bettison said.

Bettison said the teen that was hit was Cooper's target, and the young woman was uninvolved.

Police said Steen ran from the scene with Cooper after the shooting, and neither has been seen since.

Steen wanted for questioning.

Anyone with information on this incident or the two suspects are asked to call the 3rd Precinct detective unit at 313-596-1340. The public can also submit an anonymous tip at Crime Stoppers 1-800-Speak-Up (1-800-773-2587) or DetroitRewards.TV and reference case number 2506230426.
