DETROIT (WWJ) – The search is on for a person of interest in an aggravated assault downtown Detroit late last month.
Detroit police officials say officers were called to the area of 1st and Bagley Streets shortly before 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 30.
When officers arrived, EMS personnel were already rendering aid to a man who had been assaulted.
Officials have not identified the victim, who was taken to a hospital and was still listed in critical condition on Wednesday, nearly two weeks after the alleged assault.
Authorities have not released any information about the nature of the assault or what may have led to it.
Police on Wednesday released video of a man they are calling a person of interest in the case. They say he was seen near the scene at the time of the assault and would like to speak with him because he “may have information regarding this crime.”

The video shows the man walking across the street near the nearby Westin Book Cadillac hotel by State and Shelby Streets.
The man was wearing a white t-shirt, white pants and a white hat.
Anyone who may recognize the person or knows something about the assault is asked to call the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct at 313-596-1340 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
