DEARBORN (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting and police chase in Dearborn.

A task force police officer was taken to a hospital, as well as one suspect, following the incident just before 6 a.m.

Dearborn Police say officers with the Southeast Michigan Auto Crimes Consortium tried to arrest several suspects for their alleged involvement in breaking into several dozen vehicles across Metro Detroit.

When they found and tried to arrest a suspect who was driving along Southfield Road in Ecorse, the driver accelerated into one of the officers, police said.

Another officer fired his gun, and the suspect sped away.

There was a pursuit, and the suspect was caught, arrested, and taken to a hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury, police said.

A task force officer who was hit and dragged by the suspect vehicle was also being treated for injuries. Later in the afternoon, police said the officer had been released from the hospital and he'd doing OK.

Michigan State Police have since taken over the investigation, the Dearborn PD said.

No names were immediately released.
