HARPER WOODS (WWJ) -- A barricaded gunman has surrendered in Harper Woods after a six hour standoff with police.
WWJ’s Charlie Langton reports that the situation began early Thursday morning on Lochmoor Street near Vernier Road and Mack Avenue.
Officers responded to calls of a domestic altercation between a 57-year-old man and his family.
The incident then escalated and the man fired a long gun inside the home, according to police.
Occupants that were inside the home were able to escape safely.
As officers were speaking with family members near the street, the man walked out onto the front porch, but then retreated back into the house when officers attempted to communicate with him.
After further communication efforts were unsuccessful, authorities declared it a barricaded situation.
Members of the Eastern Wayne County Special Response Team responded to the scene, and Crisis Negotiators worked to resolve the incident.
The man surrendered just before 9 a.m. without further incident. No injuries were reported.
