PONTIAC (WWJ) – Clean-up efforts are underway at an abandoned home in Pontiac after a dig for a dead body came up empty.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office received a tip about a possible body in the backyard of the home on North Perry, a few blocks off Woodward Avenue Monday morning, but didn’t find anything.

Oakland County’s Mobile Forensics Lab personnel spent several hours Monday digging in the backyard of the housing unit.

Members of the ATF and Michigan State Police were also on the scene.

It was not clear whether the tip was about a specific victim or case, or if it was random.

A neighbor tells WWJ’s Jon Hewett the home is abandoned, but transients often come in and out, and people do stay there.

Even over the weekend, the neighbor saw people in the backyard.

Authorities showed up to the abandoned unit around 9 a.m. and pounded on the door, but it was unclear whether anyone was inside at the time.

Crews were filling in the holes where they had been digging on Monday.
