Police searching for gunman after 7 shot during candlelight vigil in Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police are looking for a man suspected of shooting several people during a candlelight vigil on the city's west side.

It happened around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday at Asbury Park and 6 Mile Road, where police say at least 100 people were gathered at a memorial for a man who was killed in a hit-and-run accident. An unknown suspect then pulled up to the crowd and opened fire.

Six people were rushed to Sinai Grace Hospital, and officials say one victim is in critical condition. A seventh person reportedly showed up at another nearby hospital on their own.

Detroit Police Chief James White tells WWJ that they need the community's help finding the person responsible, and they are currently working to obtain security footage from surrounding businesses.

Investigators are looking for a lime green Chevy Camaro, possibly damaged on one side from a bullet. They are also searching for the owner of a black Chevy Tahoe that was seen leaving the area.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detroit Police.
