(WWJ) A Pontiac man has died after he was hit by a Jeep while walking on Baldwin Avenue late Tuesday night. It's the second hit and run in the same area in the past month.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says Thomas Cummings, 43, was walking near Grandie Street when he was hit.  He died at the hospital.  Investigators say Cummings was not in a crosswalk area.

The crash happened a few blocks from where a bicyclist,  Frank Tyson, was hit and killed by a Jeep on Baldwin Avenue on July 3rd.

The drivers didn't stop in either crash.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying individuals connected to a recent fatal crash,” Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “If you know someone who drives a Jeep with unexplained front-end damage, or if you have any other relevant information, please come forward. Your help
could be vital in bringing answers to the victim’s family and the community.”

A witness in the July crash followed the suspected Jeep Grand Cherokee driver onto a side street where the driver and a passenger got out and took off in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.

Both incidents are being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.

Anyone with information about either crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.  A reward of up to $2,000 has been posted for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tipsters remain anonymous.
