A seventeen-year-old boy is now in custody after bringing a gun to Thursday night's Avondale High School vs. Holly High School football game.
Police who were working the game noticed a group of teenage boys acting suspiciously outside the Avondale HS football stadium. They investigated further and found a 9mm pistol hidden under some bricks near a small outer building. The gun was later determined to be stolen from another state.
The suspect is not a student at either Avondale HS or Holly HS. He was identified using surveillance footage from the game.
After being arrested on Friday, the teen was interviewed in the presence of a parent and is currently being held at Children's Village while the Oakland County Prosecuter's office weighs potential criminal charges.
Police had initially searched the stadium grounds and detained three teenage boys who an officer saw in the vicinity of the outer building where the gun was discovered. Surveillance footage later showed that none of the teens had brought the gun.
In a press release Friday afternoon, the Auburn Hill Police Department said, "There is zero tolerance for anyone who chooses to bring a firearm to our schools illegally."
An Avondale HS dance, scheduled for Friday night, was cancelled due to the incident.
