Port Huron man charged with attempted murder after attacking woman with hammer, knife and holding her against her will

PORT HURON (WWJ) – A man accused of brutally assaulting a woman and holding her against her will in Port Huron is behind bars and facing charges.

Authorities say 53-year-old Booker T. Brown is being charged with attempted murder and unlawful imprisonment after he allegedly attacked a 49-year-old woman.

Police were called to the 1500 block of 11th Street in Port Huron shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday on the report of a woman who appeared to have been assaulted.

Authorities spoke to the woman, who said she had been assaulted by Brown.

The victim was beaten, assaulted with a hammer and knife, and held against her will, until she was able to escape a house in the 1400 block of 13th Street, according to police.

The woman was taken to McLaren Port Huron Hospital for serious injuries, police officials said.

Brown was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Thursday after police found him at a house in the 800 block of Minnie Street. Authorities had executed a search warrant at the scene of the alleged assault early Thursday morning, but he was not there.

Brown was treated for minor injuries sustained prior to police contact, officials said. It was not clear how he sustained those injuries.

Brown is being held at the St. Clair County Intervention Center on attempted murder and unlawful imprisonment charges.
