Consumers Energy joining DTE to restore remaining 50K outages around metro Detroit

Power is out for third day for some metro Detroiters following powerful storms on Wednesday

(WWJ) -- DTE Energy has restored services to more than 97% of its customers, leaving some 53,000 outages that are still being repaired around metro Detroit.

Most of the outages are in southern Oakland County, with areas hit the hardest including Farmington Hills, Walled Lake, West Bloomfield and Beverly Hills.

Consumers Energy is sending 60 employees and contractors to the region to assist DTE Energy with power restoration.

At one point, more than 130,000 customers were without power following the powerful storms that swept across the state on Wednesday.

Consumers Energy spokeswoman Debra Dodd says 15 crews will gather at the company's Howell Service Center this morning, then travel to DTE's Waterford equipment yard for a safety briefing before heading out to perform work in the early afternoon.

More than 1,000 DTE crews are currently in the field working on restoration efforts.

The Consumers Energy Crews are expected to work Friday and Saturday to restore service to remaining customers in the hardest hit areas around metro Detroit.

DTE is hoping to have service restored for most customers by the end of the day.
