DETROIT — A student is facing disciplinary action after placing a prank call about an active shooter at a west-side Detroit school.

Officials with the Detroit Public Schools Community District tell WWJ it appears a substitute teacher was in a classroom at Schulze Academy for Technology and Arts when one of the students placed the call on Tuesday afternoon. Officers with the Detroit Police Department responded to the scene.

The student was identified, and the situation was handled quickly.

Parents are encouraged to talk to their kids. Police are reminding families that students can be prosecuted when they make similar threats.
