CENTER LINE (WWJ) - A pregnant Detroit woman is facing life in prison after she shot the pregnant girlfriend of her baby's father during an altercation in Center Line over the weekend, officials say.

Shantonya Williamson, 26, was arraigned on charges of assault with intent to murder and fourth-degree child abuse after the incident on Sunday, Feb, 12, the the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said.

According to authorities, the altercation started after Williamson, who is expecting, saw her baby's father near Central and Sylvan in a Dodge Charger with another women that he had also gotten pregnant.

Williamson also shares a 2-year-old son with the man -- the child was with her in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Center Line police determined that the man got out of the Charger and began to argue with Williamson, at which point she allegedly pulled out a gun and shot at the other woman still in the car.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to her leg and drove herself to the hospital. Police said she is expected to be OK.

On the same day, Detroit police officers drove past a home in the 18000 block of Greenly and reported seeing Williamson slap the man.

Williamson was arrested and arraigned on the two charges on Wednesday. A judge set her bond at $750,000 cash/surety.

“I am grateful the Detroit Police Department and the Centerline Police Department were able to work together and investigate this matter so quickly,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.

Williamson is due back in court on March 1.
