BATTLE CREEK (WWJ) -- Police believe they have found the remains of a mid-Michigan woman who has been missing for nearly two years.
Amber Griffin, 27, was last seen in June 2020 in Bedford Township -- just 10 miles north of the Michigan-Ohio border. Derek Depree Horton, her boyfriend at the time, has since been charged with her murder.
Police said that Horton made a deal through a "conditional plea agreement" that he would lead authorities to Griffin's body -- in exchange for a guilty plea to second-degree murder.
During a news conference on Thursday, Battle Creek Police Detective Sgt. Joel Case said that skeletal remains "likely to be Amber Griffin's body" were found in a wooded area.
Testing will be conducted to confirm the remains are Griffin's.
According to testimony by a Battle Creek police officer at an earlier hearing, Horton told her that he last saw his girlfriend shortly before midnight when she left their Bedford Township mobile home after the two had an argument.
Later, police said they found what appeared to be dried blood on the outside of Griffin's Chevy Impala. Additional evidence showed that Horton bought a shovel from a hardware store in the same month she went missing.
