FLAT ROCK (WWJ) -- Residents in Flat Rock are getting updates from officials about a plan to move forward following a chemical leak in the city late last month.
A re-occupancy plan and a video from Flat Rock mayor Mark Hammond were posted to the city's website on Friday, describing the latest testing and safety procedures.

Despite the updates, there’s been no official timeline on when those who were evacuated can safely return to their homes.
The video from the mayor also addresses resident concerns about testing, specifically regarding the safety of Flat Rock schools, which were back in session last week.
“You’re concerned about our schools, as are we,” Hammond says. “Our schools are continuously being monitored and they are, at this time, clear of contaminants. But the testing will continue in our schools.”
Hammond also adds that information will be continue to be posted to the city's website and social media pages as it becomes available.
Last week, around 1,100 homes were told to evacuate as the city dealt with the aftermath of a hazardous gas leak that was detected at Ford Motor Co.’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant on August 31.
Wayne County officials and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency in the Downriver community following the leak, providing additional funds to the city to help resolve the issue.
A town hall meeting is scheduled for Tuesday night.
