DETROIT (WWJ) The Detroit Pistons have hired a new head coach, according to a report from ESPN reporter Adrian Wojarnowski.

J.B. Bickerstaff has agreed to a five-year-deal to lead the team, Wojarnowski reported.

The Cavaliers let Bickerstaff go after last season and they hired Kenny Atkinson.

Bickerstaff had a 170-159 record since taking over as interim head coach for the Cavaliers during the 2019-2020 season after former Wolverines basketball coach John Beilein resigned.

Bickerstaff also served as head coach in Houston and Memphis.

The Pistons recently cleaned house, firing Monty Williams earlier this month after a NBA worst 14-68 season— during his first year in a nearly $80 million six-year contract, the largest payout ever to an NBA coach. The team still owes him $65 million.

General Manager Troy Weaver was also let go after the Pistons 2023-2024 season— which included 28 consecutive losses.

The Detroit Pistons have not made an official statement regarding their new coach.
