OAKLAND COUNTY (WWJ) - Three people were able to escape a house fire in Royal Oak that tragically took the lives of three cats late Friday night, authorities said.
As reported by FOX 2, the Royal Oak Fire Department was notified of the blaze around 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, with crews responding to the scene of a large structure fire at Rochester and Donald.
When firefighters got to the home, they found that residents at the address managed to escape prior to their arrival.
Three pet cats did not, however, and reportedly died in the burning home.
Fire crews said flames and smoke were spewing out of the back of the residence upon arrival.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
