WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) -- Nearly 200 workers at a Rite Aid Distribution Center in Oakland County will have to find new jobs next month.
The drug store company filed a letter with the State of Michigan on Monday, stating it will close the center, located at 5400 Perry Dr. in Waterford Township, on August, 16, 2024, and 191 jobs will be eliminated.
Workers at the center were told about the closing last week. The jobs to be eliminated include warehouse workers, forklift operators, janitors, managers and more.
This comes as Rite Aid has been closing stores across Michigan and the country while it works through a bankruptcy plan.
More than a dozen Michigan Rite Aid stores are on the closure's list, including the following stores in Metro Detroit:
15411 Southfield Road, Allen Park
107 Kercheval Ave., Grosse Pointe Farms
37399 Six Mile Road, Livonia
640 N. Milford Road, Milford
1998 Biddle Ave., Wyandotte
While there was no exact date announced for the store closures, Rite Aid said in a bankruptcy court filing that it would be holding "going-out-of-business" sales to liquidate non-prescription merchandise.
