(WWJ) – Last week a road construction crew in West Michigan was going about business as usual when they stumbled into quite the discovery – a set of massive bones that turned out to be a mostly-complete mastodon skeleton.
The discovery was made in Kent City, just outside of Grand Rapids on Thursday and crews initially thought the bones belonged to a dinosaur.
While the find seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime discovery, it may not be as uncommon as you might think. WWJ’s Zach Clark found out on a new episode of The Daily J just how common mastodon bones are in Michigan, and what we may be able to learn from the discovery.
