(WWJ) A violent home invasion in Sumpter Township was stopped in part by a FaceTime call.

Sumpter Township Police say the attempted robbery happened Thursday, August 27 just before 10:30 p.m., at a house located on Wear Street. They say the residents of the home were FaceTiming a friend when several men ambushed and assaulted them at gunpoint.

The men, armed with rifles and handguns, pistol whipped one resident and handcuffed them before demanding they turn over any firearms, money, or valuables.

The friend saw the assault over the video call before it disconnected and called 9-1-1. Police responded and interrupted the robbery while in progress. The suspects fled into the woods, and four men have since been arrested in connection with the case.

Police allege the suspects staked out the residence prior to the assault. All four men now await charges from the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
