ORION TOWNSHIP (WWJ) -- A wrong-way crash in Oakland County killed a married couple from Rochester Hills, and left another couple in critical condition.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened on Saturday, April 11 shortly after 1 p.m., near Lapeer Rd. and Greenshield Rd., in Orion Township. Authorities said a driver in a 2015 Ford Fiesta was traveling northbound on Lapeer Road when he crossed over the median into southbound traffic.
He slammed head-on into a 2011 Lincoln MKX.
The Lincoln driver was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Authorities identified him as 86-year-old-Alfred Young, 86. His wife, 86-year-old Florence Young, was critically injured in the crash.
She was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but died of her injuries on Sunday. the sheriff said.
The Fiesta driver, 63, of Hazel Park; and his wife, 60, were both hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities said they do not believe alcohol, drugs or speed are factors. The Oakland County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy on the Rochester Hills man, according to sheriff's officials.
The Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
