ROMULUS (WWJ) -- A child care facility in Romulus may be closing its doors for good after having its license pulled.
Following a complaint investigation that was filed on May 25, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) has suspended the license of Shelley Macfarlane.
The investigation revealed violations of the Child Care Organizations Act, listing improper child care and potential abuse in its findings.
"It was critical to take emergency action to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the children at the Macfarlane group child care home," LARA wrote in a statement.
Audio from home run by Shelley Macfarlane caught the licensee berating kids and using physical discipline, including a fly swatter, per investigators.
In one audio clip they obtained, the licensee can be heard yelling at kids and saying, "I don't wanna hear a word out of either one of you, I'm going to bust you in the mouth."
A report from the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs' investigation said MacFarlane used "profanity and degrading language, hitting children with fly swatters, and spray water as a form of discipline."
The agency says the suspension prohibits Macfarlane from operating a group child care home, or caring for children anywhere.
Additionally, the department issued a notice of intent to revoke the center's license altogether.
An administrative hearing will be held with the Michigan Office of Administrative Hearings and Rules, but has not yet been scheduled.
