'Cease and desist' order issued to Romulus gas station accused of charging $2 more per gallon than nearby stations; Michigan Attorney General

ROMULUS (WWJ) - The Michigan Attorney General has issued an order to a local gas station for allegedly price gouging.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel issued a cease and desist order to a Romulus BP gas station. The gas station is at Middlebelt and Wick Roads on the southeast corner of Metro Airport.

A special agent found the gas station selling unleaded regular gas at $4.74 per gallon while nearby gas stations were selling the same gas for at least $2 less, according to Nessel’s office.

Nessel said she suspects the operator of taking advantage of the location since it is close to the airport and rental car lots. Car rental companies generally require the car to be returned with full gas tanks.

The operator of the station has until early next year to respond.

Calls to the gas station were unanswered.

As of late Friday morning, gasbuddy.com still listed the gas at $4.74 per gallon. A BP station at Middlebelt and Eureka Roads, less than a mile away, was charging $2.99 per gallon.
